Vindral Joins the OpenMOQ Software Consortium

Vindral has joined the OpenMOQ Software Consortium, an industry-led initiative dedicated to advancing the Media over QUIC (MoQ) protocol through open-source software.

The consortium was formed to give industry stakeholders a shared foundation for media transport, enabling the next generation of ultra-low latency, broadcast-scale streaming for live sports, gaming, and interactive applications. Members collaborate to accelerate development and ensure global interoperability across the media delivery ecosystem. Alongside Vindral, the consortium includes companies such as Akamai, CDN77, Synamedia, Bitmovin, and Qualabs, as well as academic institutions including Universität Klagenfurt and Özyeğin University.

Vindral has been an early adopter of the MoQ standard, starting its adoption as far back as 2023 and rolling out full end-to-end support during 2025. The membership reflects a natural progression of that commitment, with Vindral now contributing tools and expertise to the broader ecosystem.

“While our core products will not be converted to open source, there is a need for an ecosystem of tools, components and know-how that we are both eager to share and learn from others. One of the areas where we aim to contribute is interoperability,” says Per Mafrost, CTO at Vindral.

The membership was welcomed by Will Law, Chief Architect at Akamai and one of the driving forces behind the initiative. “We are happy to include Vindral in OpenMOQ, as their focus on low latency and synchronized live streaming fits nicely with MOQ. Their innovative drive will benefit the way we shape our collaboration around this new standard.”
