This September, our COO Linus Mähler will take the stage at RTC.ON 2026, the conference for audio and video engineers, taking place September 16–18 in Kraków, Poland.
He’ll be talking about “Betting on a Draft: Adopting MoQ in Production Early”:
Vindral runs ultra-low-latency live streaming – often around a second from glass to glass, sometimes far less. Over the years our transport has changed names more than once: RTMP, WebRTC, data channels, WebSockets, and now Media over QUIC. Linus’s talk is about the most recent jump, and specifically why we made it before the standard was finished.
Adopting to a moving draft in production is not a comfortable place to be. The transport was becoming usable while the surrounding ecosystem – media formats, tooling, browser support – lagged behind. So why do it? Because we wanted the next decade of the platform to align with where the web and the standards are actually going: one protocol from contribution to playout, richer metadata, easier sync, and real interoperability once the rest of the industry arrives.
The talk will cover the trade-offs of early adoption – what aligning with WebTransport bought us strategically, why we still keep a WebSocket-based compatibility path, and what we’re hoping for as more players adopt MoQ and interop finally becomes real.
